My Favourite Beaches in the North East, UK

If you don't know this already I have a special place in my heart for the North East of the UK and beaches, so today I thought I would combine the two and share with you the best beaches along the northeast coastline.

Bamburgh Beach, Northumberland

Without a doubt my favourite place in Northumberland, Bamburgh just never lets me down. With silky white sand and crystal blue water, no matter what the weather how could anyone not love this place? If you have the time you can also pop your head into the castle which sits just above the beach and across the sand dunes.

The striking views of the castle and surrounding landscape from the beach provide such a gorgeous setting for a stroll or maybe a game of frisbee. If you need a little fuel stop, why don't you take a break and stop for a cuppa at Copper Kettle Tearoom, I can highly recommend a slice of their delicious cakes too!

Druridge Bay, Northumberland

A gorgeous and 7-mile spacious sandy bay that spans from Creswell up to Amble, it's not to be missed. A popular area with nature enthusiasts as part of the National Trust the bay is home to many nature reserves and dunes, it is also considered to be a haven for coastal birdwatches.

The easiest way to visit is through Duridge Bay Country Park which is also home to a gorgeous freshwater lake, woodland, kids play area and cafe, which means you can keep yourself busy for the whole day here!

Longsands Beach, Tynemouth

Just on the outskirts of Newcastle, Tynemouth is also home to the award-winning beach Longsands. A favourite with the local surfers and home to a few surfing schools, the wavy seas make for fantastic surfing conditions! With plenty of space, it's perfect for some beach games and a great place to set up your chair for the day.

Just over the road from Longsands is the Tynemouth Park, which is home to a small lake, inflatable kids park and my personal favourite Lost World Adventure Golf (watch out for the elephants). Also nearby is the lovely Cullercoats Bay and King Edwards Bay, both great if you want to have a paddle minus the waves. You could also take a lovely coastal walk towards Whitley Bay, this will take around 45 minutes and it's as simple as just following the sea!

Embelton Bay, Northumberland

Embelton Bay is a gorgeous bay along the Northumberland coastline and is perfect for some summer swimming or rock pooling in the more wintery conditions. The long stretch of golden sand beach is known for its striking views of the coastline as well as the sights of Dunstabourgh Castle in the distance. You can park up by the Embleton golf club and head through the dunes to make your way to the shores.

If you fancy a longer walk that encompasses Embelton Bay, check out my blog post Craster to Low Newton.
