Lifestyle and Clothing Shops in Fremantle
Three Stories
Address: 105 High St, Fremantle WA 6160
Opening Hours: 10:00 - 17:30 (Sat 9:30- 17:00 Sun 10:00 - 17:00)
This was one of my first shop obsessions in Fremantle, a surf lifestyle store that sells everything from coffee table books, clothing, swimwear, surfboards and little nick-nacks.
With three floors in this wonderful shop (hence the name I guess). On the top floor is a surfboard showroom if you are in the market for a new one or your first one, the shop offers plenty of help choosing which would be right for you.
On the other two floors, you will find me hunting through their rails of gorgeous clothing from all sorts of brands. They also have a great selection of funny/sarcastic greeting cards which if you love a good bit of pun humour are made for you. Find these next to the swimwear.
Service Denim
Address: 93-95 High St, Fremantle WA 6160
Opening Hours: 10:00 - 17:00 (Closes 16:00 Sunday and 17:30 Thurs+Fri)
The shop name mostly introduces itself, but in case you haven’t worked it out Service Denim sells clothes mostly made from denim. They have a handful of stores in Australia and New Zealand, but the one in Fremantle is the only one in Western Australia.
The prices of the clothes here can vary, a pair of jeans costs $100-200 AUD. If you have the budget and want to invest in some staple pieces be sure to stop by its convenient high street location. Also, I found a gorgeous summer dress here, so it’s more than just denim they sell.
Common Ground Collective
Address: 82 High St, Fremantle WA 6160
Opening Hours: 10:00 - 16:00 (Opens 11 on Sunday)
This lovely shop sells and promotes the work of local artists and creatives and all of the stockists are Western Australia-based. Prints, paintings, jewellery, t-shirts, candles and more are sold here.
It’s a lovely spot to pick up a souvenir if you are on a trip in Fremantle and want to pick up something to remember your time here by. Or maybe you’re like me and just love to shop homeware bits and bobs to decorate with.
Big Bite Studios
Address: The Piazza, Shop 14/15 18-36 South Terrace, Fremantle WA 6160
Opening Hours: 11:00 - 16:00 (Closed Mon + Tues)
This lovely shop was created when the owner wanted to reduce her single-plastic use, particularly within kitchen items. Now Big Bite Studios sells creative items for conscious living, whether that is a plastic-free lunchbox, a gorgeous tote bag or a beautiful piece of handmade ceramics.
You can also try creating something yourself as they run Intro to Pottery or casual classes to make pieces yourself.
Kate and Able
Address: 47 Market St, Fremantle WA 6160
Opening Hours: 10:00 - 17:00 (Sat 10:00 - 16:00 Sun 11:00 - 16:00)
I love the vibe of this shop, it sells all sorts of lifestyle sort of products. There are magazines, coffee table books, bags, beauty products, candles, puzzles and a bit of everything in this shop.
It has such a cool vibe from the minute you walk in and I think is perfect if you're looking for a gift for someone as it’s full of the things people would love but not think to buy for themselves.
Izuba
Address: 322 South Terrace, South Fremantle WA 6162
Opening Hours: 10:00 - 17:00 Tues-Fri (Opens 9:00 Thurs) 10:00 - 15:00 Sat+Sun
This gorgeous jewellery shop is my new obsession. You can make your own charm necklaces, bracelets or anklets or choose from some premade pieces. You can choose from a gorgeous selection of charms, then add them to the chain of your choice with the help of the team who will make sure it fits perfectly for you.
It’s a lovely space and I think the perfect weekend activity to do with some friends. I know I’m eager to go back and make a charm necklace soon.
Music and Bookshops in Fremantle
Chart and Maps
Address: 70 High St, Fremantle WA 6160
Opening Hours: 9:00 - 17:00 (Sat 10:00 - 17:000 Sun 11:00 - 16:00)
This shop combines my love for travel and books and is my favourite shop in Fremantle. You will be able to find plenty of maps and charts here, but they also have globes, posters and books about the world. Whether that be books on travel, fishing, boats, cooking, sustainable living etc.
I can say hand on my heart that I’ve never been to another shop like this one. If you're curious about the world we all live in you have to stop by this store. Isn’t it everyone's dream to one day buy a cool globe and spin it around to see where to go next?
New Edition
Address: 41 High St, Fremantle WA 6160
Opening Hours: 9:00 - 21:00
An independent bookstore that sells mostly, guess what, new edition books. It's not the biggest bookstore but its size makes browsing easy when searching for your next read. On top of the fiction and non-fiction books, you can find small gifts, book-related accessories and a few games here.
One lovely thing about bookstores in Fremantle is the fact they are open till 9 at night. Scrap going to a bar on a Friday night and go to a bookshop instead.
Elizabeth Secondhand Bookshop and Warehouse
Address: Bookshop/ 8 South Terrace, Fremantle WA 6160
Warehouse/ 23 Queen Victoria St, Fremantle WA 6160
Opening Hours: Bookshop /10:00 - 22:00 (Opens 9:00 Fri-Sun Closes 22:30 Fri+Sat)
Warehouse/ 10:00 - 17:00 (Opens 9:00 Sat/Sun)
This store has two locations in Fremantle and is perfect for any book nerds. The shop on South Terrace is full of second-hand books. If you think that’s good then you will love the warehouse store with rows and rows of books to keep you reading.
In the South Terrace shop, they have a ‘blind date with a book’ section. They wrap the book up so you can’t see the cover or its name and replace it with 3 short sentences describing the genre/theme. I think it’s a lovely idea, maybe for a gift or even a self-gift.
The Record Finder
Address: 43 High St, Fremantle WA 6164
Opening Hours: 10:00 - 17:00
Fremantle has a few record shops and as someone without a record player, I sadly don’t frequent them very often. However, I have found myself wandering through this shop a handful of times. Whether it’s dreaming about buying a record player to play Disney music or looking through the old DVDs for nostalgia, I love this place.
The people who work here are super friendly too, which wins extra points in my book. One morning I walked past this shop. It was about 7 am and one of the staff had some tunes blaring and was dancing around whilst sweeping the floor, it looked like such a great way to wake up.
Grocery Shops in Fremantle
Galati & Sons
Address: 19 Wray Ave, Fremantle WA 6160
Opening Hours: 07:30 - 18:00 (8:00 - 17:00 on Sundays)
Let’s start by saying, I love this place. It’s a family-run Italian gourmet deli that sells fresh fruit, vegetables and other groceries and has a deli counter for meats and cheeses. You can find everything you need to make a delicious homecooked meal here and it’s such a lovely local shop to support.
If there is one thing I recommend buying from here it’s the parmesan, my cacio e pepe has never tasted so good and I’m convinced it’s because the cheese from here is so good.
Kakulas Sister
Address: 29/31 Market St, Fremantle WA 6160
Opening Hours: 9:00 - 17:30 (Sat 9:00 - 17:00 Sun 11:30 - 17:00)
Another family-run business, Kakulas sells foods such as beans, nuts, lentils, oils, spreads, teas and herbs just to mention a few. You will also find a lot of eco-conscious household products sold here. The staff are very welcoming and helpful when it comes to finding everything you need.
My favourite thing about this shop is the coffee beans. Josh and I love going in to scoop up our next batch. They have maybe 7 or 8 different stacks of coffee beans grown in different countries around the world. We haven’t quite worked out our favourite bean country just yet.
Markets in Fremantle
Fremantle Markets
Address: Corner of South Terrace &, Henderson St, Fremantle WA 6160
Opening Hours: Fri/Sat/Sun 9:00 - 18:00
These markets are a historic landmark in Fremantle that dates back to 1897 and is arguably one of Fremantle’s most popular attractions. There are so many different types of stalls here from jewellery, sunglasses, clothes, artwork, candles and more. You’ll find fresh produce being sold towards the back of the markets and then a handful of food vendors selling in the middle and on the edge of the markets.
There is a super cool stand that sells customised Hot Wheels, I can’t for the life of me remember their name. But I highly recommend checking it out, if you go in from the Henderson Mall Entrance head straight to the final row of stands and you will find them. Remember these markets are only open Fri-Sun.
E-shed Markets
Address: Peter Hughes Dr, Fremantle WA 6160
Opening Hours: Fri/Sat/Sun 9:00 - 17:00
You can find the E-shed markets behind the train station on the docks of Fremantle just a stone’s throw from the Maritime Museum. They often get overlooked by the popular Fremantle markets, but wandering around here is much more peaceful. The stalls are bigger, there is more space and fewer people.
You will find many antique stalls, a food court, clothing, souvenirs and more. I love Sade Boutique they have stunning ceramic pieces, cool clothing, crystals, oils, lotions, candles etc.
Freo Farmers Markets
Address: Bruce Lee Oval Beaconsfield
Opening Hours: Sunday 8:00 - 12:00
This plastic-free farmers market takes place most Sundays and has a range of stalls selling, fresh produce, vintage clothing, artisanal goods and more. It also has some delicious food vendors and coffee stands as well as live music. So you can grab a bite to eat and enjoy a lovely Sunday morning.
These markets are a more recent discovery of mine and are a short distance outside of Fremantle centre, but buses are running up this way if you don’t drive. Bus numbers 999 or 160 will take you here from Fremantle train station. Find timings and routes here.
Op Shops in Fremantle
Note: For those not aware Op Shop just means charity shop in Australia. I’m a sucker for a good charity shop and Fremantle isn’t short of a few. You can get your shopaholic fix at the same time helping to reduce waste and help a charity all for affordable prices.
Good Sammy
Address: 13/19 William St, Fremantle WA 6160
Opening Hours: 9:00 - 17:00 (Sun 12:00 - 16:30)
This is a big op shop that sells clothes, shoes, accessories, furniture, books and homeware. They also have a ‘Gold Seal section’ in this op shop where designer and vintage clothing can be found.
Australian Red Cross
Address: 37 Market St, Fremantle WA 6160
Opening Hours: 9:00 - 17:00 (Sun 10:00 - 16:00)
This one is a smaller op shop mainly selling clothes with a few bags and accessories. I pop into this one when I don’t have as much time to search through racks and racks of clothing.
Salvos
Address: 21 Essex St, Fremantle WA 6160
Opening Hours: 9:00 - 17:30 (Closes 17:00 on Sat, Closed Sunday)
Another large op shop that sells clothing, shoes, accessories, homeware, books and furniture. I always find they have a lot of dresses stocked up in this op shop and quite a lot of workwear if you require any of those pieces.
St Pat’s
Address: 101 High St, Fremantle WA 6160
Opening Hours: 10:00 - 17:00
This op shop is a small curated collection of vintage pieces which fits in very well with the Fremantle vibe. Upstairs you’ll find some eclectic pieces and occasion dresses.
Most if not all of these op shops mentioned above have donation bins outfront or accept them in store, incase you have anything you no longer love.
FAQ’s
Where is Fremantle?
Fremantle is a port city in Western Australia around 20km south of the city of Perth.
How do I get to Fremantle?
Fremantle is only a 30-minute train journey from Perth Station with a train every 15 minutes during the day. You can’t go wrong using the train to get to Fremantle as it’s named the Fremantle Line. I encourage using public transport over driving as parking can get busy, especially on the weekends.
What shops are in Fremantle?
As well as the shops in Fremantle I have been discussing above you will find pharmacies, banks, convenience stores and branded shops such as Cotton On, Target, Priceline, Chemist Warehouse and IGA in Fremantle.
What is the best day to visit the Fremantle market?
Friday is usually the quietest day if you want to visit with less crowds. But if you are limited to weekend days and don’t want to be swarmed by people, I recommend stopping by after 2 as it seems to get quiter in the afternoons or at 9 on the dot before the crowds arrive.
What are some fun things to do in Fremantle?
If you are all shopped out there are plenty more things to do in Fremantle. You can take a true crime tour of the Fremantle Prison, watch a sunset from Monument Hill or learn more about the maritime history of this port city at the Maritime Museum.
